Emma Darbyshire

The Norse carved runes into wood, stone, and themselves or others because they believed runes channelled intention. You could heal through runes, bring protection, and could curse your enemies. Their written language had a deeper meaning. Our alphabet holds no magical power anymore, but language itself still holds deep meaning. Whether you tell a story by writing it down, speak it with your voice, or represent it through art, the medium you choose is essential. While I am a graphic designer and photographer by trade, my prefered medium is relief printing. This project is a carved wood relief from a single sheet specifically to honour my Norse ancestors and their love of wood work. May Odin the All Father guide our steps.
